Nick White will be leading an introductory one-day course for up to six people teaching you how to create your own artwork using this attractive and easy to use method. You will be able to explore different methods of picture making by using your own photographs and/or artwork and by using physical objects to make your very own prints to take home.
What will we cover?
- We will be looking at the basic chemistry behind preparing materials for printing.
- Exposure times and methods
- Processing and drying
- Making photograms with physical objects and turning your own photographs into photograms (this will include a bit of basic photoshop).
What will I achieve?
By the end of the day you will be able to mix your own light sensitive chemicals and prepare a surface for cyanotype printing; correctly expose and develop a cyanotype print and make a series of prints onto paper.
Do I need any specialist technical knowledge?
No previous knowledge required, just enthusiasm.
Do I need to bring anything?
Ideally a photograph that you would like to use saved onto a memory stick, but we can also work from an actual photograph or, better still, an old black-and-white negative, plus selection of objects for making patterns and shape such as lace, feathers, flowers/petals, textiles, netting, paper shapes, more old negatives – the more translucent an object is, the more interesting the results. Everything else will be provided and you will also receive some print-outs detailing everything that we have covered.
